Description:

China, Qing dynasty, late 18th to early 19th ct.
331,5 x 33 cm o.R.
Slit tapestry (kesi) in colored silk and gold threads. The crane stands with outstretched wings on a craggy rock in waves with floating treasures and fishes. The bird, symbolizing the first civil rank, faces the sun to the upper left. He is surrounded by stylized clouds between which lotus flowers are hoovering on which are placed Buddhist treasures (lidded vessel, umbrella, wheel of law, canopy, endless knot, lotus flower). On the rocks on the side are growing peonies, daffodils and Lingzhi mushrooms. The frame is filled with flowers and gold meander.
The golden background is characteristic of Buzi of the Kangxi period and a time after. However, in the present piece, the clouds are different and the bird is smaller than in Buzi of the Kangxi period.
From a South German private collection, assembled in the 1970s and 80s
Colors slightly faded, wewn on cloth, stretched on a frame
